Don Goodman expects more West Brom player exits in new transfer prediction

West Brom News Speaking to Don Goodman

West Brom News is delighted to have Don Goodman joining its team of Albion experts at the start of 2024. Goodman played for the Baggies between 1987 and 1991, scoring 60 goals in 140 league appearances to make him one of the most prolific strikers in Hawthorns history. Goodman also played for Bradford, Sunderland, Wolves, Motherwell and Walsall in his career and since hanging up his boots, he's been working in the media with Sky Sports. Now, Don has agreed to join West Brom News and we're absolutely thrilled to share his expertise on the Baggies every week.

Don Goodman expects more players to depart West Brom - and others to arrive - before the transfer window closes at the end of August.

The Baggies' transfer activity thus far has centred on player exits, with Matt Phillips, Adam Reach, Nathaniel Chalobah, Erik Pieters, Yann M'Vila and Martin Kelly all leaving at the end of their contracts.

Loanees Mikey Johnston, Andreas Weimann and Callum Marshall have returned to their parent clubs, while Cedric Kipre, Kyle Bartley and Alex Mowatt are deliberating over new contract at The Hawthorns.

Carlos Corberan will therefore be eager to add to his squad over the coming weeks, and Goodman - speaking to West Brom News - is anticipating a busy period for the Baggies.

"I can't imagine for the life of me, given West Bromwich Albion's lack of spending in recent seasons for various reasons, that they will have any sort of FFP issues," he said.

"Hopefully they can therefore invest in players to offset those who have left and will leave. I should imagine it will be a reasonably busy window for West Brom looking forward in terms of both incomings and outgoings."

West Brom's summer transfer activity so far

As mentioned, Albion have so far seen a number of players leave The Hawthorns and the squad is therefore far weaker than it was at the end of the 2023-24 campaign.

That will hopefully change, but it is worrying just how few players have been linked with a switch to Albion so far.

The transfer window may only have opened last week, but fellow Championship sides are already working on adding to their squads.

West Brom chairman Shilen Patel
Shilen Patel is hopefully working on some transfers behind the scenes at West Brom

With Shilen Patel firmly in place, the hope is that work is going on behind the scenes.

And with Corberan now looking likely to stay on as manager, all focus must be on landing some targets all over the field.
