West Brom want to sign Moussa Diarra on free transfer with exit confirmed

West Brom want to sign Toulouse star Moussa Diarra on a free transfer after he confirmed he would be leaving the club, according to FootMercato.

Writing on its website (20 June), the French news outlet reported that the Baggies are one of several clubs who want to offer the soon-to-be free agent a contract after being impressed by his performances in the 2023/24 season.

Carlos Corberan wants to strengthen his squad at The Hawthorns and is said to have “no doubt” about the 23-year-old’s ability to adapt to English football after watching him in the Europa League against the likes of Liverpool.

Baggies fans have become accustomed to free agents and loans being the go-to signings in a transfer window, so this will come as no surprise.

Despite Shilen Patel’s takeover meaning there is money available, the club are looking to generate cash through sales [Express and Star, 27 May] and Corberan is known to love a freebie in the transfer market if they can do a job.

Diarra is just 23 years old but has over 100 appearances in Ligue 1 and is capable of playing at left-back, centre-back and even in midfield, which would solve a lot of issues on the pitch.

He would only get better too considering his age and it would be a chance for West Brom to potentially develop him further before selling him on for a profit in the next few years.

It’s a great coup if the club can pull it off but with so much competition for his signature it’s going to be a tough deal to pull off, so they should move quickly if they’re serious about it.

In other West Brom news, Burnley want to appoint Corberan as Vincent Kompany’s replacement.
