Peter Odemwingie made his family pray for West Brom takeover in Frankie & Benny’s

Peter Odemwingie has revealed that he prayed with his family for West Brom to be taken over.

Guochuan Lai sold the Baggies to American businessman Shilen Patel in February after running the Black Country club into the ground.

While speaking to Albion Analysis on Spotify (21 June), ex-Baggies forward Odemwingie shared a story of how he and his children prayed for things to turn around at The Hawthorns.

Odemwingie said, “I was with my kids in a restaurant, Frankie & Benny’s, and I’m like ‘Guys let’s pray for West Brom.’

“‘Let’s pray for a buyer, let somebody come who is interested to get this club back on top, we don’t want to lose our club.'”

West Brom supporters will have a special place in their hearts for Peter Odemwingie

One of the most poignant parts of Odemwingie’s story was the fact that he referred to the Baggies as “our club” when speaking to his kids.

That use of “our” and the story itself shows just how much the 42-year-old still values the club, and supporters likely feel the same way about the Nigerian.

He is the club’s record goalscorer in the Premier League era and a true modern-day legend at The Hawthorns.

Most importantly, his prayers would be answered after Shilen Patel completed his West Brom takeover.

And based on early assessments it appears that Patel is keen to get the Baggies back on top, just as Odemwingie prayed for.

West Brom chairman Shilen Patel points his finger.
Shilen Patel has proven popular with West Brom fans since his takeover.

After some dark years at the club the future looks a lot brighter, and while they missed out on promotion to the Premier League last season, the Baggies will be confident they can go again.

Perhaps supporters wouldn’t mind Odemwingie putting in another prayer for Carlos Corberan to stick around.
