West Brom ‘hurt’ as Aston Villa agree £9m Tim Iroegbunam transfer

Dan Bardell believes that West Brom will be frustrated that they lost Tim Iroegbunam to Aston Villa as he closes in on a multi-million move to Everton.

Fabrizio Romano reported on 20 June that the Englishman is set to depart Villa Park for £9million this summer.

The Baggies lost the midfielder for a “six-figure compensation fee” in 2021 [Football Insider], meaning that the Villans are set to make over £8m profit on him.

Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell has suggested that West Brom will be frustrated with the news given how little they lost him for.

Speaking exclusively to West Brom News, Bardell said: “Villa have taken so many academy players from West Brom over the last three or four years.

It must be really disheartening for West Brom and their fans to see Villa take a player for a compensation fee and see him move on for such a fee, it must hurt the club.

It almost shows where West Brom are now as a club considering they were an established Premier League team not too long ago.

It shows what happens when you have an owner who doesn’t do the best by the club.

They are where they are now and they need to look forward rather than focusing on the past and being affected by Iroegbunam and his transfer fee.

Former West Brom youngster Tim Iroegbunam set for £9m move

The Baggies have a history of losing academy prospects to Aston Villa with plenty departing over the past few years.

This saw the Villans sign Rico Richards last summer (3 July) while signing Keilan Quinn for a fee worth around £1m in February, according to The Athletic.

There is yet to be a player that has truly stood out for at Villa since moving from the Hawthorns in recent times.

Iroegbunam has probably been the main one but he has failed to truly make an impact on the Villa squad despite breaking into the first team in 2021.

He has featured on loan for QPR in the Championship before returning to Villa to play a part in their squad in the Premier League.

Now he looks to be off to Everton in a deal which is sure to frustrate Baggies fans given they could have had a £9m player on their hands.
