Man United move could be bad Carlos Corberan news for West Brom as Fabrizio Romano drops update
Manchester United making an approach for Ruud van Nistelrooy could have a cascading effect impacting West Brom and Carlos Corberan.
According to BBC Sport on 20 June, Burnley spoke to the Dutchman to fill their managerial vacancy with Vincent Kompany moving to Bayern Munich.
However, if he says yes to Manchester United, Burnley will be on the hunt for alternatives.
Issuing an update via Twitter on Sunday (23 June), Fabrizio Romano wrote: “Ruud van Nistelrooy has been approached to be part of Erik ten Hag’s new staff at Manchester United.
“Up to van Nistelrooy as he’s also strong candidate to be new Burnley manager to replace Kompany, decision next week.
“Changes could take place in Manchester United’s staff.”
Burnley may turn to West Brom boss Carlos Corberan
This could see the Clarets then approaching Corberan, who according to Sacha Tavolieri on 19 June, is one among three names they’re considering this summer.
Along with the Baggies boss and van Nistelrooy, there is an unnamed third option also being looked at at Turf Moor.
Having recently been relegated from the Premier League, Burnley are among the favourites to secure promotion next season and Corberan may see them as an upgrade.
The Baggies have failed to even make the play-off final, let alone clinch automatic promotion since they were relegated after the 2020/21 campaign.
Funds have also been tight at The Hawthorns and Corberan has undoubtedly been punching above his weight in the second tier.
Coaches Voice’s Charlie Zazzera took to Twitter on 8 February to reveal that the Baggies had spent the least amount of money on new signings in the Championship in 2023/24 but still managed to finish in the play-off spots.
So, if van Nistelrooy moves to Old Trafford, there’s every chance Corberan may pack up his bags and join Burnley.
In other West Brom news, a £1.58billion claim has emerged as Shilen Patel completed the takeover to become the new Baggies chairman.
