Moussa Diarra in four new signings, no Cedric Kipre – West Brom potential XI v QPR

Carlos Corberan’s West Brom team is likely to look very different on the opening day of the 2024/25 season against QPR as a result of the number of changes expected at The Hawthorns.

Although they missed out on promotion to the Premier League via the playoffs, the future still looks bright for the Baggies thanks to Shilen Patel.

Corberan will be keen to make another promotion push next season. However, he might have to rely on a fairly different team to help him do it.

The Baggies get their season underway with a tip to Loftus Road to play QPR on Saturday 10 August, and the starting lineup could look very different to the one that was beaten in the play-offs by Southampton.

West Brom potential starting XI after summer signings

Alex Palmer is likely to keep his place after playing every minute of the 2023/24 Championship season.

Kipre looks as if he could be on his way out (via Express and Star, 20 June), which would be a big blow for the club.

However, his replacement already looks to be lined up, with Torbjörn Heggem set to sign for the Baggies for £525,000 (via Expressen, 25 June).

It could be an entirely brand-new back-two, with Moussa Diarra linked to the club (via FootMercato, 20 June), and Kyle Bartley’s future uncertain.

West Brom are apparently looking to sell Darnell Furlong to raise funds (via Alan Nixon, 26 May), although Corberan will hope to keep hold of the 28-year-old with a lack of options in that position.

With one year remaining on his contract at The Hawthorns, Conor Townsend will most likely keep his place at left-back.

Okay Yokuslu is keen to remain in Europe (via Hakan Yoloğlu, 29 May) and Corberan will hope to keep him at The Hawthorns with Alex Mowatt’s future uncertain.

Josh Windass is a target (via Birmingham World, 25 June), and he could line up alongside Yokuslu in midfield.

Grady Diangana scored seven goals and provided eight assists in the Championship last season, and could be in line for an even bigger role next season.

With Matt Phillips having departed the club, more opportunities could arise for 20-year-old Tom Fellows on the right.

How West Brom could line up on the first day of the 2024/25 campaign

Mikey Johnston, a fan favourite during his time on loan with the club from Celtic, has returned to Glasgow.

Ian Poveda has been linked with a move to The Hawthorns (via Darren Whitcoop, 8 June), and he could look to emulate what Johnston achieved in such a short time last season.

As for the number nine position, Brandon Thomas-Asante will no doubt feel as though it should remain his after finishing as the club’s top scorer last season.
