Carlos Corberan has room for optimism as West Brom announce Ousmane Diakité transfer

Carlos Corberan will no doubt be excited by the prospect of working with Ousmane Diakité at West Brom.

The Baggies announced on Thursday (27 June) that Diakité had signed for the club.

He made 34 appearances in the Austrian Bundesliga with TSV Hartberg last season, scoring twice. The 23-year-old is a previous Africa Cup of Nations Under-20 winner with Mali.

He has signed a two-year deal at The Hawthorns, and Corberan expressed his delight at the transfer.

The West Brom boss said, “Ousmane is a young, talented midfielder with the potential to continue his growth as a player in England.

“His personality on the ball will help us transition from defence to attack.

“He has experience abroad in Austria’s top league and has good physical attributes which will help him to adapt to the high demands of the Championship.”

Based on Diakité’s style of play, Corberan will likely be thrilled by the opportunity to work with this player and help him develop.

West Brom supporters are not likely to know much about Diakité. However, what they can expect is a player who will look to help out in the attacking areas from midfield.

Diakité came on in the 55th minute against Red Ball Salzburg toward the end of the season (12 May).

Although his side were beaten 5-1, the midfielder demonstrated his way of playing.

As per Sofascore, he completed 88 per cent of his passes, succeded with 100 per cent of his dribble attempts and won 100 per cent of his ground duels.

Diakité also demonstrated his quality during a more favourable result for his side, as Hartberg drew 1-1 with Sturm (5 May).

That day he completed 94 per cent of his passes, with one of those passes key. In addition, he won two of his three ground duels, made two tackles, one clearance, and blocked one shot.

This showcases that while he has quality on the ball, he is also capable of doing the dirty work.

Diakité is the Baggies’ first confirmed signing of the summer and supporters will no doubt be desperate to see what he can do next season.
