Alex Mowatt contract development at West Brom after new announcement
West Brom star Alex Mowatt has signed a new two-year contract to stay at the club until 2026, ending speculation over his future.
Albion confirmed the news on their club website on 1 July that the 29-year-old midfielder would be staying put following the expiry of his past deal on 30 June.
The contract includes an appearances clause which will trigger another one-year extension if met by 2026, with Mowatt having played in 48 matches across the season just gone.
Alex Mowatt announcement made at West Brom
Mowatt remaining at The Hawthorns for the next two, and potentially three seasons could prove to be a massive retention to make this summer, as Carlos Corberan begins an overhaul of the squad.
By no means one of the oldest players at the club last season, Mowatt certainly will be next time around, as five of his team-mates over the age of 30 were all released at the end of June.
Losing Matt Phillips, Erik Pieters, Adam Reach, Martin Kelly and Yann M’Vila will leave a big hole in terms of experience, but that’s one that players like Mowatt can step up to fill [Instagram, 21 May].

New signing Ousmane Diakite – the only one Albion have made so far this summer – should provide Mowatt and fellow star Okay Yokuslu with competition in defensive midfield, but the 29-year-old will be confident he still has a regular role in Corberan’s side next season.
With outgoings aplenty already at The Hawthorns, Corberan, like Mowatt, is also likely staying put and will lead a new-look side next season.
In other West Brom news, the club have made contact to sign Josh Windass.
