Carlos Corberan will be thrilled as contract terms are officially agreed at West Brom

Carlos Corberan has been handed a massive boost after Alex Mowatt agreed to extend his stay with West Brom.

As announced via the club’s official website on Monday (1 July), Mowatt is set to stay put at The Hawthorns.

The midfielder has put pen to paper on a new two-year contract with the Baggies that will keep him at the club until the summer of 2026.

In addition, the deal will extend automatically for an extra 12 months if Mowatt reaches a specific number of appearances.

And Corberan has expressed his delight, telling the club, “He is not a player who I need to introduce.

“His massive commitment to the club last year – playing almost every game – was key to us achieving a place in the play-offs and I have no questions regarding his character or football skills.

“He continues to grow as a leader on and off the pitch and he is an increasingly important member of the squad.”

It has been public knowledge for some time now that Mowatt had been offered a new deal at The Hawthorns.

And supporters would have been relieved to discover that the 29-year-old had accepted the offer.

West Brom and Carlos Corberan handed a huge boost after Alex Mowatt decision

Mowatt played 48 times last season, scoring twice and providing five assists. He was a consistent performer for the Baggies and his presence could once again prove key as the club look to achieve promotion to the Premier League.

As per fbref, Mowatt ranked in the 96th percentile of his positional peers during the 2023/24 Championship season for his pass completion rate over a short distance (94.4 per cent per 90).

Furthermore, Mowatt was in the top seven per cent of Championship midfielders for the number of passes he completed (57.93 per 90), as well as the top 13 per cent for his total progressive passes (6.57 per 90).

He also ranked in the top nine per cent for the number of carries he made (44.18 per 90), as well as his total carrying distance (246.63 yards per 90) and progressive carrying distance (122.90 yards per 90).

Mowatt was also often on hand to help out in the attacking areas, ranking in the 81st percentile for the number of passes he played into the final third (5.02 per 90) and the 85th percentile for the number of crosses he played into the penalty area (0.33 per 90).

If he has anything like the season he had last time out, the Baggies’ push for promotion will be made that bit easier.
