Carlos Corberan agent questioned amid West Brom exit talk

Don Goodman says recent speculation surrounding Carlos Corberan is a testament to the manager’s work at West Brom.

The Spaniard has been touted as a contender for both the Leicester City and Burnley jobs over the past few weeks.

Leicester appointed Steve Cooper on 20 June, however, while Scott Parker is now the strong favourite to succeed Vincent Kompany at Burnley.

Amid all the talk regarding Corberan’s future at The Hawthorns, Goodman has questioned if it could be down to the 41-year-old’s agent.

“This is what agents do – they upset the applecart if they feel it will be beneficial for their client, whether a player, manager or even physios and medical staff these days,” he told West Brom News.

“The fact he’s been linked with Leicester City and Burnley is testament to the job he’s done at West Brom. He’s done an incredible job and overachieved so far in reality in getting the club to fifth place last season – the best of the rest behind four exceptional teams.

“Like every head coach, I’m sure Carlos would love more money than he’s going to get at West Brom. You can’t blame Corberan if opportunities arise at somewhere like Leicester City in particular. Nobody could blame him for being interested in a job like that.”

Carlos Corberan set to stay at West Brom

Many will be quick to dismiss the press talk regarding Corberan, but it is quite clear he was in the frame for both the Leicester and Burnley jobs.

Just how close he came to either is anyone’s guess at this point, although Albion fans can breathe a sigh of relief that he now looks set to stay at The Hawthorns.

As Goodman says, the Leicester job in particular would have been tempting for the Spaniard – as difficult as it is for supporters to accept that.

Leicester are back in the Premier League and that is where Corberan wants to be – ideally with the Baggies.

After coming so close last time out, the hope is that Shilen Patel now backs Corberan so that he can achieve his aim over the next 10 months.
