Former Derby County goalkeeper Joe Wildmsith is set to join West Brom, according to Alex Crook.

The talkSPORT journalist reported via X on 9 July that after departing Derby upon the expiry of his contract, Wildsmith has finally found out where he will be plying his trade next season.

The Baggies already have Alex Palmer and Josh Griffiths available, meaning Wildsmith will likely be third choice once everything is announced.

What Joe Wildsmith will bring to West Brom next season

The 2023/24 season was a fairly solid one for former Derby keeper, Wildsmith.

Since arriving from Sheffield Wednesday in the 2022/23 season, the Sheffield-born goalkeeper has been a regular starter.

Wildmsith played 97 games for the Rams and managed to keep a clean sheet in 42 of those ties.

Last term was his strongest of the two as he managed 21 clean sheets and only conceded 36 goals across all competitions.

Since he was released upon the expiry of his contract, there have been a plethora of names linked with a move for the former Sheffield Wednesday man.

Wildsmith will only be the third new addition to the Baggies' team this summer but departures have been aplenty with Zac Ashworth sealing a move to Blackpool [West Brom Official X page, 27 June] and Okay Yokuslu potentially set for the exit too [Gokem Ozcan, 8 July].

The 28-year-old will be unlikely to replace Palmer as number one but will provide a solid backup option for Carlos Corberan as he aims to gain Premier League promotion.
