PFA stunned by new West Brom signing as Joe Wildsmith agrees terms
The PFA are thrilled to see Joe Wildsmith finding a new club with West Brom signing the goalkeeper on a free transfer on Wednesday.
The Baggies announced on 10 July that they had signed the 28-year-old after his contract with Derby County came to an end.
The goalkeeper had been training with the PFA as a free agent and they have now shared their delight on X (10 July) to see him find a new club.
They said: “Yes, Joe.
“Amazing to see Joe signed up for two years at West Brom.
“We were delighted to have you with us this summer for PFA pre-season.
“Ready to go.”
West Brom confirm Joe Wildsmith signing
Wildsmith played a key role in Derby’s promotion from League One last season and it was a surprise to see him released at the end of the campaign.
He clocked up 20 clean sheets across the year which saw him win the Golden Glove award for his performances.
A deal to bring him to The Hawthorns has been completed in conjunction with Josh Griffiths joining Bristol Rovers on loan.
This will provide Alex Palmer with much sterner competition next season after a superb campaign between the sticks for the Baggies.
Having good quality players and depth in that area will help to get the best out of both players moving forward.
Picking up a player like Wildsmith is good business and only looks better considering he is signing on a free transfer this summer.
This move shows the level that Carlos Corberan’s squad is at and where they want to be looking forward to their opening-day clash against QPR.
After reaching the play-offs last year, the Spaniard will be hoping he can add to his squad and push further up the Championship table.
