West Brom beat EFL clubs to Fenton Heard agreement as terms finalised

West Brom attacking midfielder Fenton Heard was subject to interest from EFL clubs before signing a new deal, according to Lewis Cox.

The Express and Star journalist reported via X (10 July) that the 19-year-old returned late to pre-season training due to interest from lower down the EFL pyramid.

As confirmed via the club’s official website (10 July), Heard has put pen to paper on a new deal at The Hawthorns.

He has signed a one-year contract with an option to extend by a further year in the club’s favour.

Can Fenton Heard break into the West Brom first team under Carlos Corberan?

After agreeing to extend his stay with the Baggies, Heard will no doubt have one thing on his mind ahead of next season.

By moving to an EFL club lower down the pyramid, the midfielder would have been more likely to receive first-team minutes.

However, he has chosen to stay put at The Hawthorns, and will therefore be desperate to make an impression on Carlos Corberan and break into the first-team next season.

Heard made his senior debut for the club earlier this year, but will likely be keen to appear more consistently next season.

He has already proven his worth, ending last season as West Brom Under-21s’ highest attacking contributor.

Heard scored seven goals and provided three assists in all competitions at that level, and with his 20th birthday only a few months away, he will be eyeing up a first-team place.

As a result, Corberan would be wise to hand him an opportunity to make an impression during pre-season.
