Cedric Kipre exit twist at West Brom as new offer made

Trabzonspor have made an offer for West Brom defender Cedric Kipre, according to Sport Digitale.

Writing on their X account (16 July), Kipre is one of three defenders the Turkish side has approached for a move this summer.

West Brom are trying to renew Kipre’s contract, his deal at The Hawthorns expired last month.

The 27-year-old was a first-team regular for the Baggies last season making 47 appearances across all competitions.

West Brom set to lose Kipre to Trabzonspor

West Brom should never have allowed a player of Kipre’s quality to run down his contract at the club.

Kipre was a standout performer at The Hawthorns last season as they reached the Championship play-off semi-finals and scored in their second-leg defeat at St. Mary’s.

Trabzonspor have a long-standing interest in the centre-back, with the player keen to make the switch from the English second tier for Europa League football (Taka Gazete, 5 June).

Carlos Corberan is now in an awkward position as he is likely to lose one of his regular starters for free, as he looks to build a side capable of Premier League promotion next season.

Kipre played the third-most matches of any Albion player for Corberan helping the side keep the second-most clean sheets in the Championship.

West Brom will struggle to replace their 2023/24 Players’ Player of the Season.

According to Sabah (10 June), his representatives are using talks with the Baggies as leverage in their talks with Trabzonspor, all but signalling the end of his time at the Hawthorns.

He was the leader of the third-best defence in the league last season and his departure represents a huge mismanagement by the club.

Corberan now faces the monumental task of replacing Kipre in his side for the upcoming season.
