England new manager odds: West Brom boss Carlos Corberan outside bet to replace Southgate

West Brom boss Carlos Corberan is an outside bet to be the next England manager, according to the latest bookmaker odds.

The Baggies manager has been priced at 50/1 by BetUK (16 July) after Gareth Southgate announced he would be stepping down from his role following the Three Lions’ Euro 2024 final defeat to Spain on Sunday (14 July).

Former West Brom bosses Steve Bruce, Sam Allardyce, Darren Moore, Alan Pardew and Roy Hodgson all also join Corberan as a 50/1 outsider as of Tuesday.

BetUK have Eddie Howe as the 2/1 favourite right now with ex-Baggies midfielder Graham Potter (11/4) and Lee Carsley (3/1) also among the front-runners.

SkyBet have the 41-year-old at longer odds of 150/1 (16 July) placing him alongside the likes of Gary Neville, Alan Shearer, West Ham United boss Julen Lopetegui and Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta.

Will Carlos Corberan replace Gareth Southgate as England manager?

West Brom fans have already been faced with the prospect of losing their gaffer once this summer when Corberan was linked with Leicester City [John Percy, 3 June], but a move to Wembley seems less likely than the King Power.

Although it could be argued the Baggies manager would have done a better job this summer than Southgate did, The FA are unlikely to look to the Championship when they appoint the next Three Lions boss in the coming weeks.

Reports have suggested a shortlist has already been drawn up by the powers at be at St George’s Park, with the likes of Eddie Howe, Graham Potter and Mauricio Pochettinho expected to be in the running for the hot seat [Sky Sports, 16 July].

Even if none of England’s targets are willing to take over the reins from Southgate, there will be several candidates ahead of Corberan in the current pecking order at this moment in time.

If the Albion boss was managing in the Premier League or had won promotion via the playoffs last term, maybe he would be in with a genuine shot.

For now, however, he seems set to remain at The Hawthorns which will be a relief to supporters as the new Championship season looms on the horizon. Hopefully, the FA don’t shock everyone and make a surprise approach.
