Carlos Corberan could quit West Brom for Premier League job after £1m transfer twist

Dan Bardell believes West Brom should sign Sorba Thomas from Huddersfield Town to prevent making Carlos Corberan unhappy.

The Sun reported via their print edition on 14 July (page 59) that the Spaniard wants the 24-year-old, but the Baggies aren’t willing to pay the £1million asking price.

The Spaniard spent the early stages of the summer transfer window being linked to Leicester City and Burnley, so it could be in the club’s interest to sign the Terriers star and keep their head coach happy.

Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell has therefore urged West Brom to bring in Thomas for what is a relatively cheap fee.

Speaking exclusively to West Brom News, Bardell said: “It makes sense. Managers like to sign players that they have worked with before.

£1m is quite a modest fee but it’s good for West Brom that they are able to spend money now.

They have to give Corberan what he wants because if a job becomes available in the Premier League he is going to be one of the favourites straight away.

You would imagine that Thomas is a player that he wants even if he has just been relegated to League One. I think they need strengthening and some additional depth ahead of the new season.

They’ll have ambitions of another campaign in and around the play-offs but they just need to consolidate what they did last season.

West Brom interested in Sorba Thomas

The Baggies have been a consistent force in the Championship in recent seasons under Corberan’s management and will be hopeful that he stays.

There have been links away from The Hawthorns for the Spaniard amid the Premier League interest in his signature.

Signing someone who the former Huddersfield manager has worked with in the past, in Thomas, could be a useful bargaining chip for the West Brom hierarchy.

The versatile midfielder is able to feature on either flank or in central midfield which could make him a useful rotation option next season.

The former Boreham Wood man hit top form in the Championship under Corberan in the past and could do so again moving forward at The Hawthorns.

In other West Brom news, Corberan is a outside bet to seal a major job away from The Hawthorns after a development in the past 24 hours.
