West Brom make ‘excellent’ move to fix finance issue that sees them in Championship bottom half
West Brom have made an “excellent” move in order to fix some financial issues heading into the new Championship season, according to The Swiss Ramble.
The report (18 July) indicates that their previous total of £4.9 million in matchday income placed them in the bottom half of the Championship. However, with an increase in average attendance from 21,900 to 23,000, that put them in fifth place for attendances in the league.
The big positive of note comes from their season ticket sales. They have bettered any sales in the last decade ahead of the new campaign, with an increase of around £50 in prices from last season due to the “ongoing rise in inflation”.
The big move in question, though, comes from their “kids for a quid” program which has been going on for three seasons now. It allows anyone under 17 to buy a season ticket for £23 in all four stands, bringing in a whole new wave of Baggies fans.
West Brom’s big push
It’s no exaggeration to say that West Bromwich Albion supporters have been on a rollercoaster ride in recent times. Their upcoming season will mark a fourth straight year in the Championship and for a group of supporters that are used to the top flight, you’d have to imagine they’ll be hungrier than ever to return.

One thing they’ve relied on heavily in years gone by is money from player sales. They’ve always been astute with bringing through promising young talent and when it comes to balancing the books, this certainly seems like one of their best routes forward.
In equal measure, they aren’t spending big in the transfer window just yet. Torbjørn Heggem, Ousmane Diakité and Joe Wildsmith have all arrived for less than £1million in total and with a few weeks left until the Championship gets underway, we’d imagine there will be more to come as the hunt for the top six begins.
In other West Brom news, Goodman has named the Albion player who is now worth “a heck of a lot more” than he was when arriving.
