Sunderland ready offer for defender after West Brom stay ends
Sunderland are preparing to make an offer for Edward Jones after his West Brom trial ended, according to the Sunderland Echo.
The newspaper reported via its website on Thursday (July 18) that the Black Cats are currently weighing up a potential contract offer for the 19-year-old.
Edwards was released by Everton last season and spent some time on trial at the Baggies in April and May.
He is now a part of Sunderland’s youth squad on a trial basis, as they undertake pre-season preparations in Italy.
West Brom chose not to sign Edward Jones
West Brom decided not to sign Edward Jones, despite the 19-year-old having trials at The Hawthorns [Express and Star, April 29]. The defender was let go by Everton at the end of last season and following his release he briefly joined Albion in May, but didn’t impress and wasn’t offered a contract.
Now, the youngster is trying his luck with Sunderland. He’s with their youth team in Italy for pre-season, and the Black Cats seem interested in him and might offer him a contract.
They have a good track record of turning young players into stars, so this could be a great opportunity for Jones.
West Brom might have missed out on a promising talent, but it’s way too early to tell if that’s the case. Sunderland’s approach to nurturing young players makes them an attractive option for someone like Jones. They’re known for giving youngsters a chance and helping them develop into top players.

In the end, West Brom’s loss could be Sunderland’s gain. We’ll have to wait and see if Jones can make the most of this chance and prove the Baggies wrong.
In other West Brom news, Goodman has named the Albion player who is now worth “a heck of a lot more” than he was when arriving.
