West Brom fans stunned by Birmingham transfer coup – ‘Ridiculous’, ‘Sell Diangana’

West Brom supporters have reacted with suspicion to Birmingham City as the big-spending Blues pursue a permanent deal for Fulham’s Jay Stansfield.

As reported on X [22 July] by Darren Witcoop, Birmingham are interested in securing an audacious permanent move for the 21-year-old, who scored 12 Championship goals on loan at St. Andrew’s despite the club’s relegation to League One last season.

It is understood that while an agreement with Fulham is not yet close, Blues have held talks over Stansfield and could be willing to splash out the asking price of over £5m after the Cottagers refused another loan.

West Brom have so far made three summer signings – two on free transfers – and with not a lot set to be spent in this window, supporters are sceptical on whether the Baggies would spend the funds that Birmingham are despite the difference in divisions between the two West Midlands clubs.

Blues have already spent over £11m in an unprecedented spree for a third-tier club, even before a possible deal for Stansfield – which would almost certainly break the league’s transfer record as they already have done twice in recent weeks.

West Brom fans’ shock over Stansfield to Birmingham

Whether it’s jealousy, scepticism or downright bemusement, West Brom supporters have rather understandably displayed their feelings at Blues’ free-spending – particularly with the relaxed financial regulations compared to the Championship, and the departure links meanwhile of Albion’s own players.

Fans have taken to X to air their views on Stansfield’s possible return to St. Andrew’s, with one even suggesting that Grady Diangana should be sold to raise the funds needed to “hijack” the deal.
