Andy Johnson thrilled with breath of fresh air Shilen Patel after what’s happened at West Brom in pre-season
Andy Johnson has praised West Brom owner Shilen Patel for his work in the transfer window.
The Baggies have already confirmed the signings of Torbjorn Heggem, Ousmane Diakite and Joe Wildsmith this summer and are looking to make further additions.
It marks the first window since Patel’s takeover at The Hawthorns and Johnson, speaking on the Express & Star’s podcast Baggies Broadcast (23 July), has been thrilled with his proactivity.
He said: “With the new owner, Mr Patel coming in, I think the mood around everything has changed. Everything just feels better, we are in better shape, and things are happening early.
“He has put down good foundations, set his stall out and shook things up a bit. We’ve managed to hang onto the players we wanted to with new deals and we’ve made signings early.
“You can’t ask for much more than what he has done, it has just been a breath of fresh air for everyone associated with the club and long may that continue.”

The Baggies have already made two positive additions to their squad this summer with further additions now looking possible.
Links to the likes of Cameron Brannagan [Pete O’Rourke] and Sorba Thomas have come up [The Sun, page 59, 14 July] who would certainly be good signings.
These deals can only be seen as positive after the campaign that West Brom had last season, reaching the playoffs before losing to Southampton.
With Carlos Corberan staying on at the Hawthorns beyond the summer, despite links to the Premier League, there is plenty to be happy about.
If the Baggies can seek out more additions from the market then there is no reason why they can’t build on the positivity from last season.
With that being said, they will need to rebuild their side if they are to lose Okay Yokuslu who has been linked to Trabzonspor [61Saat].
Patel is in charge of the club and Corberan is at the wheel so even that sale can’t take away from the positivity around the Hawthorns right now.
