Ian Poveda spotted doing official photoshoot amid West Brom transfer links

West Brom may have just accidentally learned the winners of the Ian Poveda transfer race after the player was spotted doing an official photoshoot.

The Baggies have been linked with a move for the 24-year-old, who has become a free agent after having his Leeds United contract expire this summer.

Carlos Corberan’s side joined the race to sign Poveda earlier in the window, according to Darren Whitcoop [8 June], battling against Cardiff City, Luton Town and Sheffield Wednesday.

However, all four Championship teams look set to miss out on the Colombian’s signature, with the attacking midfielder spotted doing an official photoshoot ahead of an announcement.

SunderlandAFC11 shared an image via X on Wednesday (24 July), showing Poveda wearing a Sunderland shirt and Sunderland scarf, surrounded by several cameramen.

This leaked image would suggest that the Black Cats are close to announcing a deal for the winger, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Hillsborough.

West Brom set to miss out on Ian Poveda transfer

Poveda looks to be an extremely smart signing this summer, especially as a free transfer after leaving Elland Road as a free agent.

While he only notched one assist during his loan spell at Wednesday before suffering a season-ending injury, the winger brought a lot of energy onto the pitch, causing several to ponder why Leeds let him go.

He never really settled into life in West Yorkshire, making a total of 30 appearances since arriving from Manchester City in 2020, going on loan to Blackburn Rovers, Blackpool and Wednesday.

With Tom Fellows, Grady Diangana and Jed Wallace as the only natural winger options at The Hawthorns currently, Corberan would have not turned down the opportunity to add Poveda to his ranks.

However, after the recent image of the player in Sunderland attire, West Brom’s transfer bubble might be about to burst.

In other West Brom news, Reyes Cleary could be promoted to the Baggies’ first team after a pre-season stunner.
