Okay Yokuslu faces obstacle to West Brom exit as Carlos Corberan stance shared

West Brom manager Carlos Corberan has not yet given permission for Okay Yokuslu’s proposed transfer to Trabzonspor to go through, according to Hasan Tuncel.

The 61Saat reporter posted on X on Tuesday (23 July) and said that the future of Turkish midfielder Yokuslu is still up in the air as Baggies boss Corberan drags his feet over making an official decision.

It comes just days after it was suggested that the Turkish club were in the final stages of negotiations for the deal (61Saat, 21 July).

West Brom fans wait to learn Yokuslu’s fate

The consistency of Yokuslu in last season’s Championship was clear for all to see. He was crucial to the Baggies’ push for promotion and across the entire campaign, he started 44 league games (FBref) and was seen as one of the integral cogs in their top-six surge.

While Corberan may be hoping to convince the 30-year-old to stay at The Hawthorns, a move away seems almost inevitable at this point. He hasn’t played in his homeland since back in 2018 when he left Trabzonspor, going on to sign for Spanish club Celta Vigo where he had loan spells with the Baggies and Getafe before a permanent switch to the Hawthorns in July 2022.

The signing of Ousmane Diakite certainly seemed to indicate that West Brom knew this was a distinct possibility, but of course, the aim and intention will be for them to have the strongest squad possible heading into a really competitive year in the Championship.
