Sorba Thomas makes transfer decision amid West Brom links

West Brom-linked Sorba Thomas has decided against a move to The Hawthorns this summer, according to Chris Hall.

The journalist reported on Thursday (July 25) via X that the 25-year-old is now likely to go abroad, possibly joining Ligue 1 side Nantes.

The Huddersfield winger has been linked with a move away from the Terriers this summer, following their relegation from the Championship.

Thomas wrote: “I’m hearing Sorba Thomas has decided against a move to Albion & instead will go abroad (probably Nantes).

“While he’s clearly a very good player I’m not too gutted at this as I didn’t completely see where he would fit into our team with Fellows & Wallace occupying RW.”

Sorba Thomas close to a move to Nantes

The 25-year-old Welsh winger looks set to leave Huddersfield for French side Nantes this summer. Nantes and Huddersfield have agreed on a loan deal for Thomas [L’Equipe, July 25], who has been a standout player despite the Terriers’ recent relegation to League One.

Thomas first joined Huddersfield in January 2021 from Boreham Wood. Since then, apart from a brief loan spell at Blackburn Rovers, he’s been a key player for the Terriers. However, even his strong performances last season couldn’t prevent relegation, making a move likely this summer.

Nantes, who finished 14th in Ligue 1 last season, seem to have won the race for Thomas’s signature, despite interest from West Brom. This move will mark Thomas’s first venture outside the UK and his debut in top-flight football.

For Thomas, this is a chance to shine on a bigger stage. With two years left on his Huddersfield contract, his time at Nantes could determine his future moves.

As Hall said, it is difficult to see where he would have slotted in at the Baggies. In truth it doesn’t feel like the worst deal to miss out on.
