West Brom submit ‘ridiculous’ bid to sign Isaac Price after approaches made

West Brom submitted a bid for Standard Liege’s Isaac Price that was deemed “ridiculous” after making enquiries weeks ago, according to Kevin Sauvage.

The Belgian journalist reported via his personal X account [24 July] that there have been no discussions between the two clubs since, with Liege not wanting to sell the 20-year-old.

It is understood that the Championship side’s funds may not be enough to secure the Northern Ireland international’s signature, with a £1.7million deal being mooted this summer [Sacha Tavolieri].

Can West Brom raise funds for Isaac Price transfer this summer?

The former Everton midfielder looks to be a very exciting prospect, a youngster who has gone against the grain and joined a team in Europe after his Goodison Park exit.

Price arrived in Belgium last summer as a free agent, going on to become an important asset for Liege, notching a goal and two assists in 39 appearances.

While he is naturally a centre-midfielder, the 20-year-old has the ability to play further up the pitch, which could push Carlos Corberan into raising funds and investing in the young player.

He managed to make just five first-team appearances during his time on Merseyside, having come through the Toffees academy but already looks to have a bright future ahead of him.

Price has already won 12 international caps with Northern Ireland, becoming a regular figure under Michael O’Neill, who has also handed debuts to West Ham’s Callum Marshall and Rangers’ Ross McCausland.

If West Brom are to strike a deal to bring the 20-year-old to The Hawthorns, it seems they must up their offer quite significantly, or risk being laughed out of the transfer by Liege.

The Baggies will be hoping to push into the Championship play-offs once again next season, but will also be hoping to go one step further after losing to Southampton in the semi-final last term.

In other West Brom news, the Baggies must save Mikey Johnston from Celtic after a pre-season altercation with Brendan Rodgers.
