South-East club signs centre-mid after West Brom exit – Done Deal

Woking have confirmed the signing of West Brom academy graduate Jamie Andrews after he exited The Hawthorns at the end of last season.

The South East club confirmed in a statement on Friday (26 July) that the 21-year-old centre-midfielder had put pen to paper on a contract after his deal with the Baggies expired this summer.

Andrews had spent last season on loan with Grimsby Town in League Two having never quite managed to break into Carlos Corberan’s first team, only ever making one competitive appearance in an Albion shirt.

Are West Brom close to any new signings in the summer transfer window?

While it is always a shame when a talented homegrown talent doesn’t quite manage to break into the Albion first team, it is good to see that Andrews has managed to find himself a new club so quickly after his exit.

Although he never quite managed to have the impact in a West Brom shirt that supporters would have hoped, he showed in his time at Grimsby last season that he has the skills to be a regular starter in the football league.

Woking will be looking to climb further up the National League table this season after a midtable finish last term and with the 21-year-old now on their books, they will have a better chance of finding their way back in the playoff positions.

For Andrews, the step back into the National League where he previously played on loan at Yeovil will offer the opportunity to really get his career up and running after a difficult few years at The Hawthorns.

Hopefully, he will be able to get back to his best by playing first-team football week in and week out.

West Brom supporters will be hoping to hear about some more incoming business over the next couple of weeks of the transfer window as they will be looking to mount their own top-six push this season.
