Carlos Corberan to make Caleb Taylor decision after West Brom contract update

Caleb Taylor could be the next youngster to break into Carlos Corberan’s West Brom squad ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

The 21-year-old centre-back spent the second half of last season out on loan with Bolton Wanderers after making just six appearances for the Baggies in 2023.

Taylor clearly has a lot of potential, helping Bolton to the League One play-off final, with the club confirming that he has put pen to paper on a new deal at The Hawthorns until 2028.

Some fans may have feared that Taylor’s spell with the Baggies could have been coming to an end after another loan spell, but the most recent update would suggest he is a star for the future.

Now, Corberan must decide if the youngster can be utilised in the senior squad this season or if the centre-back needs another loan before breaking into the team.

Caleb Taylor must be considered for West Brom opportunity

While the 21-year-old only made seven appearances in League One last season and has only played nine matches for West Brom, he will feel that he is ready for first-team action at The Hawthorns.

Seeing Zac Ashworth leave on a permanent deal was a disappointing turn of events this summer, so the same cannot happen with Taylor.

With Kyle Bartley, 33 and Semi Ajayi, 30, still expected to be the starting centre-back partnership, it is important for Corberan to begin bringing the next generation of players into the squad.

The signing of Torbjorn Heggem is already an important step towards that goal but fans would love to see one of their academy products make a breakthrough after so many years at the club.

Having just been handed a new contract at The Hawthorns, many will believe he is now ready for the giant step up to Championship football and play a bit-part role in the Baggies’ bid for promotion to the Premier League next term.

In other West Brom news, Carlos Corberan already has a replacement for Okay Yokuslu as exit links emerge at The Hawthorns.
