Okay Yokuslu expected in Turkey on Tuesday after West Brom accept seven-figure transfer fee

Okay Yokuslu is expected to arrive in Turkey following his transfer from West Brom to Trabzonspor on Tuesday, according to Yunus Emre Sel.

The Sabah journalist reported via X on 29 July that the Baggies midfielder was due to head to the Super Lig side the following day, where he has signed a three-year contract.

The 30-year-old moves as he enters the final year of his contract at The Hawthorns, after West Brom agreed a fee of €1.6million [£1.35m] according to Sports Digitale’s Yağız Sabuncuoğlu via X the same day.

It had emerged earlier on 29 July via Sel on Sabah Spor that the deal was now sorted between the clubs and on personal terms.

West Brom have signed Ousmane Diakité in midfield

Yokuslu may be a 30-year-old with less than a year left on his deal in the Championship but the Baggies might have hoped to get more for him all the same since Express & Star reported on 17 July they valued him at £2m.

After returning to The Hawthorns on a low-key free transfer two years ago his 99 appearances for the club since have demonstrated his importance to Carlos Corberan.

Multiple clubs clearly agreed as Yokuslu had previously agreed terms with Trabzonspor’s league rivals Besiktas, according to Ertan Süzgün on 5 July.

Three more appearances off the bench at Euro 2024 to take up him up to 43 caps for Turkey also show his value but it was a buyer’s market.

Corberan has brought in Malian Ousmane Diakité after he left TSV Hartberg in the Austrian Bundesliga to help fill the gap, and the club agreed a contract extension with Alex Mowatt to prevent extra upheaval in central midfield.

But it is still a blow to lose a virtual ever-present over the past two seasons when the Championship opener at QPR is only a week and a half away.

Corberan has shown an admirable ability to adapt to difficult circumstances as manager of this club and while the long-term picture his brightened thanks to the arrival of Shilen Patel the Spaniard will be expected to do more of the same for now.

In other West Brom news, the Albion have let a “highly-rated” player leave on loan despite Corberan being a huge fan.
