Thomas-Asante to attend Hull City game on Tuesday, West Brom exit all but done
Brandon Thomas-Asante will be in the stands for Hull City’s friendly against Fiorentina on Tuesday as he finalises a move from West Brom, according to the Hull Daily Mail.
Writing on their website (30 July), Thomas-Asante will sign a three-year contract with an option for fourth with Hull for a deal worth less than £2m.
Tim Walter will have Thomas-Asante available for his squad later this week and is in contention to start their final pre-season match against Reading on Saturday (3 August).
West Brom dealt transfer blow with Thomas-Asante sale
Carlos Corberan must act quickly in the transfer window to replace Thomas-Asante, with the start of the new Championship season just over a fortnight away.
The 25-year-old has been the Baggies’ top scorer for the past two seasons and scored 11 goals in the league last term, but with 12 months left on his contract was forced to sanction a sale for their star forward.
Josh Maja managed just one goal in the Championship last season as did Daryl Dike, who is still sidelined with a long-term injury, leaving Corberan short of options at striker for the upcoming season.
The Baggies are now in a position of desperation, strengthening their Championship play-off rivals Hull and leaving themselves little time to find a replacement before the start of the season.
Leicester City striker Tom Cannon has been linked with a loan move, but given the injury troubles suffered by Maja and Dike last season, they require two more striker options following the sale of Thomas-Asante.
West Brom were backed up in a corner with Thomas-Asante but they have to lick their wounds and quickly move on if they are to push for Premier League promotion next season.
