Tom Cannon told to consider West Brom transfer after Leicester City exit update

Carlton Palmer has told Leicester City striker Tom Cannon that a move to West Brom would “be a good move” ahead of the transfer deadline.

Reports have suggested that the Baggies alongside a whole host of Championship clubs are targeting the Foxes forward who appears set to leave the King Power Stadium temporarily [The Sun, 28 July, page 55].

Although Football League World pundit Palmer admits he wouldn’t be surprised to see Cannon return to Preston North End, he believes a move to The Hawthorns would see him challenge at the top of the Championship.

Speaking to Football League World (30 July) he said: “Tom Cannon, is in demand coming up to the start of the season.

“Sheffield United, West Brom and Stoke, along with Preston, are keen to acquire his services. Steve Cooper has had him in the building over pre-season to have a look at him, but it seems the 20-year-old will be allowed to go out on loan.

“Where do I see him going? I think he’s obviously very keen on Preston, he did really well there, but Sheffield United will be challenging at the top end of the Championship next season.

“You would also expect West Brom to be up there, and Stoke could be dark horses, so any of these sides would be a good move for Cannon.

“But you always look at where you’re going to play your best football, and he did ever so well for Ryan Lowe and Preston, so it wouldn’t surprise me if he heads back there.”

Will Tom Cannon exit Leicester City amid West Brom transfer rumours?

Albion desperately need a new number nine this summer as the current options available to Carlos Corberan at The Hawthorns have either been inconsistent or struggled with injury issues.

Daryl Dike has always impressed when fit and available but hasn’t managed to play more than a handful of games over the last 12 months or so.

Similar can be said about Josh Maja who is yet to get going in Albion colours despite showing plenty of promise.

Brandon Thomas-Asante is the most reliable of the bunch, but speculation has been swirling about his future with the Baggies and there is every chance he could depart before the Championship campaign gets underway.

Although Cannon had a tough campaign with Leicester last time out, barely featuring under Enzo Maresca as the Foxes won the title, he has shown in the past that he is more than cut out for the second tier.

Hopefully, he will follow Palmer’s advice and make the move to West Brom this summer.
