West Brom robbed as new transfer fee of Brandon Thomas-Asante to Hull City shared
West Brom are set to lose striker Brandon Thomas-Asante to Championship rivals Hull City for a fee significantly below the £2.5million initially reported, according to HullLive.
The paper reported via its online edition on Tuesday (30 July) that a deal between the clubs for the 25-year-old, who netted 11 goals last season, is all but done.
On top of reduced payment Albion are set to receive, some of the payment is set to go to Salford City, Thomas-Asante’s previous club.
He will sign a three-year contract with the option of a fourth and is expected to be in attendance for Hull’s friendly against Fiorentina.
West Brom robbed by Hull City over Thomas-Asante transfer fee
West Brom are getting a raw deal with Thomas-Asante’s transfer to Hull. Selling a player of his quality for less than £2million might be seen as practically giving him away.
Last season, he was an important player for the Baggies, scoring 11 goals and helping the club reach the play-offs. For a striker of his calibre, the club easily could have held out for more money.
It also feels like The Hawthorns outfit didn’t put up much of a fight to get the best deal. With his contract still having a year left, there was surely room to negotiate a higher fee over the coming days and weeks.
Instead, the Baggies settled for less with part of the fee going to Salford City, his former club.
Thomas-Asante is not just any striker; he has the talent and potential to make a decent impact wherever he goes.

West Brom might regret letting him go for such a low amount, especially to direct competition in the Championship.
In other West Brom news, Albion have let a “highly-rated” player leave on loan despite Corberan being a huge fan.
