West Brom player set to fly out to Germany with latest Hawthorns exit almost done

West Brom defender Conor Townsend is set to fly out to Germany to take part in Ipswich Town’s pre-season camp with his deal all but complete, according to Dharmesh Sheth.

The Sky Sports journalist took to X on Wednesday (July 31) to report that the 31-year-old will undergo his medical with the Tractor Boys on Wednesday (31 July) before putting pen to paper.

The Baggies are set to receive £750,000 from the deal that will end Townsend’s six-year spell at The Hawthorns [John Percy, 31 July].

Sheth wrote: “Left-back Conor Townsend to have Ipswich Town medical today after deal agreed with West Brom. All being well, he will join up with pre-season training camp in Germany.”

Conor Townsend’s West Brom career comes to an end

Townsend’s time at West Brom is ending as he gets ready to join Ipswich. The 31-year-old has been a dependable player since he arrived in 2018. He’s played 213 games and always gave his best, especially during last season’s playoff run.

Carlos Corberan has done great things for the team, but now he has to find a replacement for Townsend. Losing him right before the season starts is tough, especially with no new left-back lined up.

For Townsend, moving to Ipswich means a chance to play in the Premier League. It’s an opportunity he can’t pass up. While the Baggies will miss him, it’s a big chance for the defender to play on a bigger stage.

Nonetheless, it’s not all doom and gloom at The Hawthorns. Albion are set to receive a £750,000 fee for the defender [John Percy, 31 July] and it could be used to find a suitable replacement before the start of the season.
