West Brom set for new striker transfer as Devante Cole update emerges

West Brom are set to complete the transfer of former Manchester City, Motherwell and Barnsley striker Devante Cole, according to Lewis Cox.

The Express and Star journalist took to X on 31 July to claim that three of the Baggies’ players namely Brandon Thomas-Asante, Okay Yokuslu and Conor Townsend, will also be leaving.

Cole, the 29-year-old English forward last played for Barnsley and is now available on a free transfer.

Cox wrote: “Brandon Thomas-Asante and Conor Townsend set for WBA departures to join Coventry (beat Hull to it) and Ipswich, respectively. Both follow Yokuslu out exit door. All three had 1yr left on deals.
Understand free agent striker Devante Cole, 29, poised to sign.”

Devante Cole a low-risk and potentially high reward signing for West Brom

The potential signing of Cole represents a low-risk, high-reward opportunity for the club.

The 29-year-old English forward would arrive on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract with Barnsley, meaning there is no transfer fee involved.

This makes the move financially low-risk for West Brom, allowing them to invest resources in other areas of the squad.

Cole’s experience in the Football League, with previous spells at Wigan, Bradford City, Fleetwood Town and Barnsley, provides a proven track record of goalscoring ability.

While he may not be a regular starter, he could be a much-needed backup for whoever ends up being Carlos Corberan’s preferred man to lead the line.

The departures of Thomas-Asante, Townsend and Yokuslu free up significant wages, which can be reinvested in strengthening the squad.

Cole’s arrival could help fill the void left by these departures, providing a new attacking dimension to the team.

In other West Brom news, a first-team player is not a part of Carlos Corberan’s plans and is likely to seal a loan exit this summer.
