Brandon Thomas-Asante sends goodbye message ahead of West Brom exit

West Brom striker Brandon Thomas-Asante has bid farewell to the Baggies fanbase as he nears a summer transfer to Coventry City.

Reports suggest the Baggies’ Championship rivals are set to announce the signing of the 25-year-old forward, despite facing competition for his signature from Hull City this summer [Pete O’Rourke, 31 July].

While the deal hasn’t yet been confirmed by either club, the forward has taken the decision to pen a heartfelt message to the team and Albion fans as he closes in on an exit at The Hawthorns.

Writing on Instagram on Thursday (1 August) he said: “Baggies, It’s been under two years, but the love I felt will stay with me for a lifetime.

“From scoring on my debut to now only feels like days have passed, but seasons change and it’s time to take this step onwards now. Knowing that I have contributed all the commitment and value I could to you all in the circumstances, achieving a strong league position, does give me peace.

“Some of the moments which stand out to me include the goals against Stoke and Bristol. I do wish there were more of them, but our mission and approach, at times, felt that other aspects of my game were prioritised.

“That being said, I hope both the special moments and my commitment to the team may stay in your minds.

“I’m honoured to have the opportunity to have played with amazing players, work with amazing individuals from the catering team, to media, to the laundry ladies, physio and sports science staff, wellbeing staff and of course coaching staff and more.

” I very much cherish my connection with the Hawthorns crowd, and it was an absolute honour to be top scorer in my 2 seasons here.

“Going forward, I hope the fans can be fulfilled as the club continues on this trajectory, returning to the heights you all desire and deserve. Thanks for the memories, and for welcoming my family to be a part of that chapter.

“All the best, BTA.”

Has Brandon Thomas-Asante exited West Brom amid Coventry City transfer links?

With Thomas-Asante’s exit now all but confirmed, Albion simply have to move quickly to add to their squad with the new Championship campaign only a matter of days away and plenty to play for in the race for promotion.

The signing of Devante Cole is a step in the right direction and will have bolstered Corberan’s attacking options, but the former Barnsley man alone won’t be able to fill the void left by the sheer amount of departures this summer.

Recruits are needed in central midfield after Okay Yokuslu’s exit, in defence following the departures of Cedric Kipre and Connor Townsend and now at the top end of the pitch after Thomas-Asante joined Coventry.

Whether or not Albion have the financial muscle or time to make that many additions to their squad remains to be seen, but the recruitment team will be under pressure to get this squad ready for the new season.

In other West Brom news, Tom Cannon has been urged to consider a move to The Hawthorns as the Baggies eye a summer transfer.
