Conor Townsend leaves West Brom as new transfer fee with Ipswich Town revealed
West Brom have sold defender Conor Townsend to Ipswich Town for a fee below the reported cost of £750,000, according to Football Insider.
Writing on their website (1 August), the outlet reported that Townsend’s move to Portman Road is worth £500,000 to Albion.
Daily Telegraph reporter John Percy had previously reported on his X account (31 July) that the fee would be £750,000, but it seems the Baggies will receive £250,000 less from the sale.
Conor Townsend leaves West Brom
The departures continue to mount at The Hawthorns as Townsend is the latest name to leave the club this summer.
Townsend returns to the Premier League at the worst possible time for the Baggies, with just over a week until the Championship season opener against Queens Park Rangers.
The 31-year-old made 213 appearances for West Brom, including 44 league outings last season, and played a vital part in helping Carlos Corberan’s side reach the Championship play-offs via a fifth-placed finish.
A fee of £500,000 will not be enough to cover an adequate replacement, but with just 12 months remaining on his contract, the Baggies needed to sell. However, the club now find themselves in a rather desperate position approaching the new season and with seemingly no replacement in sight.

This will come as a blow to West Brom fans, who would have hoped Townsend would have stayed and replicated last season’s performances to help the side push for promotion this season, but the allure of the Premier League was too much to resist.
He will be sorely missed at The Hawthorns thanks to his years of steady service, but Corberan cannot waste time licking his wounds and needs to act fast and secure a replacement for his starting left-back to avoid losing ground in the early weeks of the new season.
