Conor Townsend has delivered an emotional social media message to West Brom supporters after completing a move to Ipswich Town.

Posting on his Instagram account on 1 August, Townsend bid farewell to Albion supporters after six years at The Hawthorns, as he makes the £750,000 switch to the Premier League new boys.

The left-back is set to be joined through the exit door by Brandon Thomas-Asante, with Okay Yokuslu's departure having also been confirmed.

Townsend's Instagram caption read: "Thank you to everyone at WBA. This club has been a huge part of my life, promotion to the Premier League and making my Premier League debut was something I'd only dreamed about.

"My two daughters were born here and walking out with Sofia as captain is a memory I'll cherish forever. To achieve over 200 appearances is something I'm very proud of.

"Thank you to the fans, coaches and teammates over the years, made friends for life. All the best, Con."

West Brom lose Conor Townsend

The general opinion among Baggies fans appears to be that this is the right time to sell Townsend, with the defender having just 12 months remaining on his contract.

Whilst no one can begrudge Townsend a return to the Premier League, especially at 31, it is important Albion recruit over the course of the next month to not be left threadbare in the Championship season.

Carlos Corberan will be frustrated to have lost so many experienced players in one summer, and the focus is now on Shilen Patel to provide funds to reshape the squad.

There are however PSR worries at The Hawthorns as reported by Chris Lepkowski [31 July], which could potentially tie the club's hands in the market.

West Brom are bringing in a collective sum of around £4.75m for Townsend, Thomas-Asante and Yokuslu, and fans are demanding the funds be reinvested into the team.

In other West Brom news, a former player has been jailed.
