Gary Neville reacts to latest West Brom transfer news
Gary Neville has reacted to Brandon Thomas-Asante’s farewell message as the striker gets set to depart West Brom for Coventry City.
Reports suggest the Baggies’ Championship rivals are set to announce the signing of the 25-year-old forward, despite facing competition for his signature from Hull City this summer [Pete O’Rourke, 31 July].
Thomas-Asante had been West Brom’s first-choice striker under Carlos Corberan last season as Josh Maja and Daryl Dike spent extended spells on the sidelines.
Manchester United great and Sky Sports pundit Neville is one of the co-owners of Salford City, where the Baggies signed Thomas-Asante from.
Responding to Thomas-Asante’s Instagram post on Thursday (1 August) Neville wrote: “Well done Brandon!!,” followed by the raised hands and heart emojis.
Are West Brom close to any new signings in the summer transfer window?
With Thomas-Asante on his way out of The Hawthorns, the Baggies have to step up their search for a new number nine even with Devante Cole already through the door ahead of the new Championship season.
Neither Dike nor Maja can be relied on to play week in and week out with their poor injury records and while both players carry a threat when fit and available, that simply doesn’t happen often enough.
Last season, Corberan was at least able to call upon their experience and know-how of Andi Weimann off of the bench from January onwards, but it appears to be becoming increasingly unlikely he will return to West Brom.

Portions of this squad are undoubtedly top-six ready, but not enough of it. With so many players already exiting only a week or so before the league season gets underway, there is plenty of work to be done in the remainder of the window.
Hopefully, the Baggies won’t live to regret letting so many players leave The Hawthorns this summer.
In other West Brom news, Tom Cannon has been urged to consider a move to The Hawthorns as the Baggies eye a summer transfer
