Mo Faal must take final chance at The Hawthorns after West Brom transfer news

Mo Faal has one final chance to impress Carlos Corberan after spending the 2023/24 campaign on loan away from West Brom.

The 21-year-old has had limited chances at The Hawthorns, making just two senior appearances for the Baggies in between loan spells at Hereford, Telford, AFC Fylde, Doncaster Rovers and Walsall.

The latter two loan moves in that list have proved to be the most productive for the young striker.

He notched nine goals at the Eco-Power Stadium with Doncaster before netting six times in 20 matches for Walsall in two separate six-month spells in League Two.

While it is a major jump up from League Two to the Championship, Faal is running out of time to persuade Corberan that he is ready to join the first-team set-up on a permanent basis.

The forward, capable of playing as a centre-forward, on the flanks, or at attacking midfield, has just one year left on his contract and must earn an extension if he wants to stay at The Hawthorns.

Can Mo Faal break into the West Brom squad?

One of the latest exits may have handed Faal the perfect opportunity to prove himself at a much higher level than he has been used to in recent seasons.

Brandon Thomas-Asante has bid farewell to the Baggies via Instagram [1 August], with the player set for a move to Championship rivals Coventry City, as per Pete O’Rourke.

Upon his exit, Corberan will be left with a very important void to fill. The 25-year-old was the Baggies’ top scorer in back-to-back seasons after joining from Salford City in 2022.

While Faal will be under a lot of pressure already to earn his stay at The Hawthorns, the added pressure from Thomas-Asante’s exit could help him thrive in the senior team next season.

There is only really one way to find out if the young striker can hack it in the Championship. Corberan must be brave and give him a chance.
