Brandon Thomas-Asante fee revealed after West Brom agree deal with Coventry City
West Brom are set to earn a guaranteed £2.25million after Brandon Thomas-Asante completed his transfer to Coventry City, according to Tom Collomosse.
The Mail Sport journalist reported via X on Thursday (1 August) that the Baggies could pocket upwards of £3million in total, with potential add-ons also included in the 25-year-old’s summer move to the Sky Blues.
Albion announced on Thursday that the centre-forward had left The Hawthorns to complete his summer move to the CBS Arena ending his two-season stay as a West Brom player.
Brandon Thomas-Asante exits West Brom for Coventry City transfer
While Thomas-Asante’s exit does leave Carlos Corberan slightly short of striking options with only a week to go until the new season, the Baggies were never going to be able to turn down that sort of transfer fee.
Unfortunately, with the 25-year-old in the final year of his contract at The Hawthorns, Albion were never in a particularly good negotiating position as they were running the risk of losing a sellable asset for nothing in 12 months’ time.
Had he still had a year or two left on his deal, the Baggies could have demanded the sort of transfer fee that has been mooted by pundits and supporters alike, with Carlton Palmer suggesting the forward was worth £8million [Football League World, 25 July].
Thomas-Asante’s sale partnered with the departures of Okay Yokuslu and Connor Townsend will give Corberan and his recruitment team a bit of money to play with between now and the end of the window.
The signing of Devante Cole is an excellent start, but further firepower is going to be required if Albion want to mount another top-six push as both Josh Maja and Daryl Dike have struggled with injury.
Hopefully, a few new faces will come through the door before the transfer window slams shut at the end of August.
