West Brom eye £1m+ move for Cyprus international, club ready to do business

West Brom are interested in signing Cyprus international defender Stelios Andreou, according to Football Insider.

The online publication reported on Friday (2 August) that Albion’s Championship rivals Stoke City and Cardiff City are also eyeing a move.

Andreou is a regular for Charleroi, but the Belgian club are said to be ready to cash in this summer and he could be available for around £1.25million.

West Brom eager to make further transfers

The mood has become pretty flat around The Hawthorns over the past few days following the exits of Okay Yokuslu, Brandon Thomas-Asante and Conor Townsend.

Even accounting for the players that have come in – most recently striker Devante Cole – Albion’s squad looks weaker now than it did at the end of last season.

The good news for Carlos Corberan is that there are still four weeks to go before the summer transfer window closes.

And it can only be a positive that the club continue to be linked with new names, even if some of them are unknown – as is the case with Andreou.

The Cypriot is a centre-back by trade and would therefore provide competition for Kyle Bartley and Semi Ajayi, which would be very much welcome.

Andreou has close to 100 appearances for Charleroi and is clearly doing something right as he has attracted interest from a trio of English Championship clubs.

West Brom chairman Shilen Patel points his finger.

As long as the Albion transfer department have done all their research and Andreou ticks all the boxes, this is a move the club should pursue for a relatively small fee.

In other West Brom news, the full fee Albion could receive for Brandon Thomas-Asante has been disclosed.
