Barnsley respond as West Brom table new bid for Callum Styles transfer

Barnsley have rejected a bid from West Brom for midfielder Callum Style, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster reported on Friday (2 August) that the Baggies have seen their offer for the 24-year-old Hungarian rebuffed, with other clubs also vying for his signature.

It is understood that West Brom face competition from rival Championship sides as well as clubs from the MLS.

West Brom join Callum Styles transfer race

Styles has prompted quite a lot of interest over the past few seasons with Barnsley, having joined the Championship club in the summer of 2018 and making his breakthrough into the squad.

While the 24-year-old has 151 appearances for Barnsley and has become a regular figure for the Hungary national team since 2022, he is still being loaned out from Oakwell Stadium.

He joined Millwall for the 2022/23 campaign before returning to Barnsley for the first half of the 2023/24 season. Despite playing 22 times and scoring three times, he was loaned out once again, this time to Sunderland.

Given his performances at international level, the Baggies would be pulling off quite the transfer if they were able to secure Styles’ signature this summer.

The midfield looks to be where Carlos Corberan needs to strength before the transfer window shuts, especially after Okay Yokuslu’s exit to Trabzonspor, and multiple prospects have now been targeted.

Standard Liege’s Isaac Price could be an alternative signing, with the Baggies readying another bid for the central midfielder after seeing another offer rejected by the Belgian side [Sacha Tavolieri].

Given Styles’ experience in the Championship, however, he could be a much better option for Corberan after losing such a vital player in the middle of the park.

With other clubs vying for his signature, West Brom must hurry along their approaches for the 24-year-old before another club beats them to it this summer.

In other West Brom news, Carlos Corberan must make a decision on Caleb Taylor following a recent contract update at The Hawthorns.
