Carlos Corberan ‘not happy’ after West Brom transfer collapse, player wanted move
West Brom manager Carlos Corberan has been left unhappy after the Baggies failed to agree a deal to sign Sorba Thomas, according to Chris Lepkowski.
The Baggies were understood to be in the race to sign the Huddersfield Town attacker this summer, but the Welsh international has ended up joining Ligue 1 club Nantes on a temporary basis [Chris Hall, 25 July].
Corberan shared his frustration with the current situation at The Hawthorns following Albion’s pre-season defeat against Birmingham City, and former Baggies’ head of media Lepkowski believes that is partly because of Thomas.
Speaking on The Liquidator Podcast (4 August, 9:10) he said: “I think it’s a real marker as to why Carlos Corberan has made the comments that he has and is perhaps a little bit unhappy with what he’s got to deal with.
“I know that he wanted to pursue Sorba Thomas at Huddersfield and he was not happy that a deal wasn’t concluded. He’s a player who wanted to join us, he wanted the player to join and we couldn’t come to an agreement.”
Carlos Corberan exit from West Brom cannot be ruled out
Corberan will have known about the financial situation at The Hawthorns when he took over from Steve Bruce over two years ago, but he would have hoped that Shilen Patel’s takeover would make his life a bit easier as Baggies manager.
Most supporters will agree that the Albion boss is completely within his rights to be slightly frustrated that the club have failed to secure one of his top targets, especially after he has lost so many key players this summer.

The Baggies were never going to throw money around recklessly this summer as that isn’t feasibly possible for so many reasons out of their control, but this appears to be a deal that was completely in their hands.
Hopefully, Corberan doesn’t begin to grow too frustrated with the challenge he is faced with at The Hawthorns.
He has already been linked with a move away this summer and West Brom simply cannot afford to lose him.
