Carlos Corberan reveals Jed Wallace ‘problem’ at West Brom ahead of new Championship season
West Brom captain Jed Wallace could be a doubt for the club’s Championship opener against Queens Park Rangers after Carlos Corberan confirmed another injury setback.
The boss noted that, after suffering from an initial adductor problem, Wallace is now suffering from pain in his calf. He will have a scan within the next few days with the results expected before the weekend.
The 30-year-old continues to serve as an integral piece of the puzzle at The Hawthorns both on the pitch and behind the scenes.
“Wallace had a problem at the beginning of pre-season in the adductor that didn’t allow him to make the normal programme,” Corberan said, as per the Express & Star [4 August].
“Then, two days ago he felt a pain in the calf. He’s going to have a scan and we will know the result of the scan in the next days.”
Jed Wallace in race against time for West Brom
Wallace has been a consistent force for West Brom in the last few years. He serves as one of the first names on the team sheet and if the Baggies are going to make a push for promotion, his work from midfield is going to be critical in that surge.
Last season, he appeared in 42 Championship games. In that time, he was able to accumulate six goals and five assists (FBref).

While it wasn’t enough to secure a place in the play-off final, the squad showed enough progression to suggest that they could be in the mix once again this time around.
Either way, this news isn’t good for the club. They’re currently embroiled in controversy off the pitch with regards to PSR rules and as things continue to look stagnant in the transfer market, they need all the help they can get.
The Championship looks as competitive as it ever has, so hopefully, this is just a case of being overly cautious.
In other West Brom news, Carlos Corberan must make a decision on Caleb Taylor following a recent contract update at The Hawthorns.
