Millwall ready move to re-sign West Brom star Jayson Molumby after Neil Harris decision

Millwall are in the hunt to re-sign Jayson Molumby from West Brom, according to The Mirror.

Writing on the newspaper’s website on Sunday (4 August), Dan Marsh, who is a Millwall-supporting journalist and also works for South London Press, reported that the Lions want to strike a permanent deal for the 24-year-old Ireland midfielder after spending a loan spell at The Den in 2019/20.

It’s unclear whether Albion are open to selling Molumby after already losing Okay Yokuslu to Trabzonspor this week.

Still, Millwall manager Neil Harris has been reportedly keen on the ex-Brighton man all summer and the South London club is now plotting a move to sign him.

West Brom could be forced into Molumby sale to Millwall

Molumby has already made headlines once this summer for punching Mallorca’s Samu Costa in the face in a pre-season friendly at West Brom’s training ground.

He could now make headlines again if he leaves The Hawthorns to return to Millwall.

It remains to be seen if the Baggies do sell the Republic of Ireland international because right now, their midfield options are fairly limited.

After selling Yokuslu and releasing Yann M’Vila and Nathaniel Chalobah, Carlos Corberan only has Molumby, Alex Mowatt, John Swift and Ousmane Diakite as potential central midfield options without dipping into the Under-21s.

We would expect one new arrival in the midfield anyway after Yokuslu’s departure so getting rid of Molumby, who’s unlikely to be on high wages, would only make things tougher.

West Brom are under financial pressure because they don’t want to breach PSR and get hit with a points deduction by the EFL in the future.

It means that some sales have to go. However, this is one we don’t think is entirely necessary unless Millwall are ready to pay a fee higher than the £900,000 paid to Brighton a couple of years ago.

Molumby would need a new contract if he stays though as his existing deal is up next year.
