Aston Villa forward Lewis Dobbin set for West Brom medical in unexpected transfer
Aston Villa forward Lewis Dobbin is set to undergo a medical with West Brom in an unexpected transfer twist, according to talkwba.
The X page, which has broken several Albion stories along with Baggies source DOOD, reported on 6 August that Carlos Coberan’s side are in talks with their West Midlands rivals over a deal which would see the attacker join on loan.
Dobbin only arrived at Villa Park from Everton earlier this summer for a fee of £10million [E&S], but with the threat of limited game time in Unai Emery’s side, a temporary switch to The Hawthorns could be considered.
While talks continue, there are some key details which need to be ironed out ahead of any prospective loan move, with the next few hours likely to decide whether a deal will be completed.
Will Lewis Dobbin exit Aston Villa amid West Brom transfer speculation?
Carlos Corberan needs some more attacking recruits between now and the transfer deadline, especially now that Brandon Thomas-Asante has completed his move to Championship rivals Coventry City.
While Devante Cole is an excellent early replacement, he doesn’t have loads of experience in the Championship and it remains to be seen if he can score the goals to fire the Baggies into another playoff push.
Dobbin may be inexperienced, but he showed plenty of promise during his time at Everton to suggest that he could be a future star. The Villa man can play both out wide and as a traditional number nine and would offer some much-needed versatility to Corberan.
It is also about time that the Baggies started taking some players off of Villa’s hands as the last few years have seen countless West Brom academy graduates make the move to Villa Park, including Morgan Rogers.
Hopefully, this deal can be completed sooner rather than later as it would be a major boost to Corberan if Dobbin was available for selection for the opening weekend of the Championship season.
