Kylian Mbappe’s club wraps up deal for Carlos Corberan signing at West Brom
Yann M’Vila has found a new club after leaving West Brom at the end of last season, and signed a deal with the side owned by Kylian Mbappe.
Ligue 2 club SM Caen posted on X (6 August) to announce M’Vila as their first signing of the transfer window, with the Frenchman returning to his homeland having departed The Hawthorns on 30 June.
Caen have undergone huge changes in recent days, with 80 per cent of the club’s shares being bought by Coalition Capital – a subsidiary of Interconnected Ventures, the company owned by none other than Kylian Mbappe [Sports Pro Media, 31 July].
M’Vila had only signed for the Baggies on 19 February, reuniting with Carlos Corberan from their spell together at Olympiacos, but made just nine appearances in all competitions before being released.
Yann M’Vila finds new club after forgettable West Brom spell
Despite having experience of English football stemming back to his loan spell with Sunderland in 2015/16, M’Vila hardly got a look-in at the Hawthorns, arriving with barely four months of the season left.
With the likes of Nathaniel Chalobah, Alex Mowatt and Okay Yokuslu ahead of him in the pecking order, it was always going to be difficult for M’Vila to make any kind of breakthrough.
The 34-year-old will likely get much more in terms of minutes playing in the French second tier, with arguably even more eyes on him and Caen as a whole given the connection to Mbappe.
Chalobah and Yokuslu also leaving the Hawthorns this summer could perhaps have opened the door for M’Vila to extend his stay in the West Midlands, but Ousmane Diakite’s arrival soon closed that door.
Albion fans will be intrigued that a club owned by arguably the best player in the world have signed a recent player, but will also be frustrated that despite being on the market himself this summer, Mbappe chose Real Madrid over The Hawthorns.
