West Brom agree deal with Juventus and Gianluca Frabotta as transfer terms emerge

West Brom have agreed a free transfer deal with Juventus to sign full-back Gianluca Frabotta during the transfer window, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

The Sky Sports Italy journalist reported via an update on his own website on 5 August (11.27pm) that the Italian won’t cost anything up front but will have a 20 per-cent sell-on clause built in.

His agent is already in London to discuss finalising the switch to Carlos Corberan’s side with a three-year deal waiting for him in the Midlands, with buy-in secured from the player as well.

Di Marzio also reported via X on 5 August that QPR had been beaten to a deal for the 25-year-old, with a Baggies medical lined up for Tuesday 6 August.

The Albion looked to have moved fast to tie up a deal for Frabotta and keep him from heading to Loftus Road.

With Juve and the player already having agreed to the move and the medical set to go ahead within a matter of hours it looks like this move should be over the line in short order, barring any unforeseen issues.

After Conor Townsend departed for Ipswich there was a space at left-back in Corberan’s squad that needed filling.

So Frabotta’s arrival should continue a trend of sourcing bargain deals to replace cash exits as the Baggies look to balance the books, with Ousmane Diakité and Devante Cole taking the places of the now-departed Trabzonspor midfielder Okay Yokuslu and Coventry striker Brandon Thomas-Asante.

Frabotta has long since fallen out of favour at the Allianz Stadium, having been on five separate loans within Italy since his last appearance for the Old Lady and dropped down to Serie B for game time.

But in the financial situation West Brom find themselves beggars can’t be choosers and a deal with no upfront cost when he had two years remaining on his Juventus contract [Transfermarkt] looks like it could be smart business.

In other West Brom news, a very highly-rated Baggies ace who Corberan loves has departed on loan.
