West Brom fans rage at Sky Sports News video clip – ‘Absolute Garbage’
West Brom fans are furious to see Sky Sports News giving former sporting and technical director Luke Dowling a platform to talk about his stint at The Hawthorns.
Dowling worked behind the scenes at the Baggies between 2019 and 2022 and is widely seen by supporters as one of the main reasons why the club is in the mess it’s in.
He failed to work well alongside Slaven Bilic after the Albion won promotion to the Premier League in 2019/20 and while he did pick up the odd gem like Matheus Pereira, he’s infamously remembered for causing so much behind-the-scenes friction that it led to a mutiny of academy staff and players.
Aston Villa are still picking off the odd West Brom youth player due to the fact their academy set-up has a lot of former Albion chiefs working there, leading to the Black Country club losing out on millions of pounds in transfer fees.
On top of that, Dowling oversaw the signings of players like Kenneth Zohore (£8m) and Karlan Grant (£15m), with the latter still under contract at The Hawthorns until 2026 with millions still owed to Huddersfield for the deal.
It rankles a lot with West Brom fans that Sky Sports reported last week that the club’s transfer business is being restricted by the EFL due to potential future PSR breaches.
Since then, the broadcaster has had Dowling on air to talk about what his job role at The Hawthorns was even though he’s arguably the biggest reason those restrictions are in place.
