West Brom final Championship position predicted by supercomputer
West Brom will finish in the Championship play-off spots this season, according to Opta Analyst.
The Analyst’s supercomputer has predicted [5 August] the outcome of the 2024/25 Championship season with the campaign set to begin on Friday (9 August).
West Brom will play their opening fixture against Queens Park Rangers on Saturday (10 August) and are predicted to finish fourth this season, behind Leeds United, Middlesbrough and Burnley.
Carlos Corberan led his side to a fifth-place finish last season and missed out on Premier League promotion with a play-off semi-final loss to Southampton.
The Baggies are expected to improve their standing this term and qualify for the playoffs for the second consecutive season. The supercomputer currently has their chances at 53.2 per cent to finish in the playoff spots.
The supercomputer has simulated the upcoming Championship campaign 10,000 times to produce the final prediction. The results will change throughout the season and are powered by real-life data.
West Brom are predicted to finish with an average of 71 points in the league, have a 17.2 per cent chance of automatic promotion, and stand a 7.5 per cent chance of winning the Championship this season.
West Brom given chance of promotion
If the data is anything to go by, the Baggies are in a great position to push for Premier League promotion this season.
Corberan’s side have already gained experience of playing in the playoffs and that should serve them well should they qualify again.
Automatic promotion and winning the Championship outright is always the dream ahead of any campaign, and the supercomputer gives West Brom a slim chance, but a chance all the same, of finishing in the top two positions.
The prediction will go towards easing the supporters’ worries ahead of the new campaign. The Baggies have sold several key stars over the summer and Corberan has recognised this season as the biggest challenge of his career (Birmingham Live, 3 August).

Leeds United and Middlesbrough currently stand in the way of the automatic positions. Corberan will face tough opposition in relegated sides Burnley and Luton Town, as well as Norwich City, if the prediction is accurate.
Anything is possible as we approach the new season and West Brom should take the prediction as a sign that the club is heading in the right direction.
