West Brom can seal one more overseas signing after post-Brexit rule change

West Brom can sign one more player from abroad after the post-Brexit rule was changed,

Joseph Chapman suggested on 9 August that until recently, overseas players had to meet point criteria based on various criteria.

Now each side can sign four per window and with Ousmane Diakite, Torbjoern Heggem and Gianluca Frabotta coming in already, Carlos Corberan can only sign one more.

Discussing this, he said: “Due to Brexit, recruiting from abroad – something Albion have historically done so effectively – had been made much trickier.

“This past year, though, there was a relenting in the rules which meant each club being allowed to sign up to four players from overseas who were didn’t necessarily have the required points which each player was awarded based on various criteria.

“It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Albion venture back out onto the continent to fill their quota before the end of the window.”

West Brom can sign one more overseas player

The Baggies have historically done well signing players from more obscure leagues from around the world to improve their squad.

They have looked to do that this summer despite having EFL restrictions placed upon them to help ease issues related to PSR.

There has been some smart business conducted from within the UK with Joe Wildsmith and Devante Cole coming in on free transfers.

This has been combined with deals from abroad with Frabotta being the most recent name to come in from Juventus.

The full-back has featured for various top sides across Italy, having made appearances for the Old Lady, Bologna and Hellas Verona.

On a free deal, the Baggies have done well to bring him in and is a key example of the value to be had from markets abroad.

Corberan can now turn his attention to bringing one more player from overseas in to bolster his squad.
