West Brom look at Pyry Hannola with new transfer on cards at The Hawthorns

West Brom are interested in SJK midfielder Pyry Hannola and are monitoring his situation, according to West Brom Xtra.

The Albion-dedicated account posted on X (12 August) that the Baggies have been tracking the 22-year-old’s progress in the Veikkausliiga, with Hannola netting four goals in 18 games from midfield.

The Finnish youth international is described as “one to watch”, but has recently extended his contract with third-placed SJK until the end of 2026 [SJK, 3 August].

Carlos Corberan’s side began their Championship campaign with a 3-1 win over QPR, and the Spaniard has made clear he wants to add to the squad despite dismissing any incomings in the next few days [Express and Star, 12 August].

Pyry Hannola transfer could answer West Brom midfield question

Capable of playing both central and attacking midfield as well as on the edges of a narrow front three, Hannola could give Corberan plenty of versatility if he does complete a move to The Hawthorns.

With Grady Diangana and captain Jed Wallace both injured for the season opener, Karlan Grant, John Swift and Tom Fellows started behind hat-trick hero Josh Maja at Loftus Road.

That suggests that reinforcements are certainly needed in this area, with Grant in particular expected to be an option in Maja’s position instead.

Adding Hannola to the mix wouldn’t mean he slots straight into the side – given the Finnish Veikkausliiga is his highest level of experience – but would allow Corberan some flexibility in his selections this season.

No transfer fee has been mooted with Corberan monitoring Hannola’s progress, but given the Baggies have been placed under a business plan by the EFL [Rob Dorsett, 3 August], any fee for the 22-year-old will be modest at best.
